Description

Bushrod Washington Herbert was born to Mary Lee Washington Herbert and Noblet Herbert in Alexandria, Virginia. A graduate of Harvard, he was an active Freemason, amateur classical scholar, and unpublished poet. He inherited the Prospect Hill house and about 200 acres in Jefferson County, present-day West Virginia. Herbert, who never married, died on 4 October 1888 in Kabletown.
