We have sent a servant down expressly <mutilated> the other gentlemen of whom we rent <mutilated> to inform them how very difficult it will <mutilated> a monied rent for this place the next <mutilated>d out public affairs continue in the <mutilated>ttled & precarious state they are at <mutilated>hould like to rent this place for the next <mutilated> can agree upon the terms. We cannot <mutilated>ve a monied rent for it, but will rent <mutilated> as is most usual in this country. We <mutilated>w by the bearer your determination <mutilated> no time to be lost in preparing for a <mutilated>eat. We are sir yr mo. ob. servts.

LS, ViU: Papers of the Washington Family. On the back of this document, in Lawrence Lewis's handwriting, is a list of enslaved people to whom he had given out shoes. The list reads as follows: "Shoes given out/Jack Bowmer/Will Beef/Abby/Ben/Pete/Ester/Tabby/Jack/Lydia/Kitty/Daphney/Seney/Sary/Lydia/Henry/Ailse/Daniel/John/Sally/Sam/<illegible>/Hannah/Mike/Reuben/George/Joe/Will Napper/Shadrick" he also wrote "Gave Ellison 7 W. of Wooll March 18th 1813"
