James Reid (c. 1755–1821)

Description

James Reid of Virginia served as a lieutenant in the Patriot forces during the Revolutionary War. He subsequently was a partner in Huie, Reid & Co, a Dumfries-based mercantile firm that specialized in tobacco and other commodities. Reid died on 20 July 1821 in Dumfries, having bequeathed his entire estate to one Elizabeth P. Owens and her children.
