Description

James Alexander Hamilton, the third son of Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton, was born in New York City on 14 April 1788. Described by biographer Ron Chernow as Alexander Hamilton’s "favorite child," James graduated from Columbia, went into law, and was a militia officer during the War of 1812. He also served under President Andrew Jackson as acting secretary of state (1829) and U.S.
