Lucy Ann Payne Washington Todd (1769–1846)
Lucy Payne Washington Todd was a debtor of Bushrod Washington, her second husband's Supreme Court colleague.
Lucy Ann Payne, younger sister of Dolley Payne Todd Madison, was born on 20 November 1769 in Hanover County, Virginia. Following her Quaker father's manumission of his slaves, young Lucy and her family moved to Philadelphia. In 1793 she wed George Steptoe Washington, a nephew and ward of George Washington. The couple had six children (three of whom would reach adulthood) before Washington's death in 1809. Three years later, Lucy married U.S.
