Description

Ludwell Lee, son of Richard Henry Lee, was born on 13 October 1760 at Chantilly, the family plantation in Westmoreland County, Virginia. He studied in England and France, read law under George Wythe, and served as aide-de-camp to Lafayette during the Revolutionary War. Lee later sat in the Virginia House of Delegates (1787–90) and the Virginia Senate (1792–1800) before retiring to life as a planter.
