To James Caldwell
Mount Vernon March 12. 1803
Sir
I promised to write to you respecting the Mohawk lands as soon as I returned home. I find by the Schedule to the General's will that he values this land at $6 per acre, stating that the latter Sales have been at that price, & that what remains unsold will fetch that or more.
Knowing nothing of the land ourselves, we take this statement as our guide, tho we do not consider it obligatory upon us where it appears that the lands are overvalued. We will allow a liberal time for payment, upon recieving interest in the mean time. You will please write me upon this Subject as soon as convenient. I am Sir respectfully Yr Ob. Servt.
