Description

Josiah Quincy was born in Boston on 4 February 1772. Following graduation from Harvard, he read law and was admitted to the bar. Elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1804, Quincy proved to be a stout Federalist and forthright opponent of the Thomas Jefferson and James Madison administrations.
