To Lawrence Lewis

My dear Sir

I recd your letter & now, she much hurried, sit down to acknowledge it.

I do not think that we can attack the $47 in the hands of Hunter, nor am I even clear that we can demand it from him. If however he will pay it, I have no objection to indemnifying him, as it is clear that Hammeltree is answerable to us for the same, & unless he will give you an order for it, I shall sue him & shall certainly recover it. If he wishes to save costs it will be best for him to give you the order.

I think it will be clearly best to sell the growing crop of wheat. In haste, but affectly yrs

Bush. Washington
