To Lawrence Lewis

My dear Sir

I intended this morning to give you an early call & take my breakfast at Woodlawn, partly with a view to talk with you on the subject of the Dismal Swamp Share, but the heat was so oppressive, that I put on my roundabout intending to stop at my meadow, & then recollecting that you had company I declined fulfilling my first intention on that account.

If you will do me the favor my dear Sir to dine with me tomorrow I shall in addition to the pleasure of your company have an opportunity of explaining fully to you to whole subject embraced by your letter Just recd. Do not let company prevent you from Coming if my request that they will do me the favour to dine with me can be successful— if you cannot Dine with me, can you not ride down in the morning? If neither, I will ride up in the morning & see you. I am anxious to converse with you on the subject of this share as well as another in which I think you & this neighbourhood are interested & which you alone can accomplish. I wrote in great hurry, but am always my dear Sir yr attached friend
