To Lawrence Lewis

Dear Sir

The sale of the Rock hall estate is, I am pretty sure, fixed for the 15th next month. I have looked in the Alexa. paper for the advertisement but can’t find it. You will however see it in the Winchester paper.

I enclose you a Copy of my letter to Mr Lee (which please preserve & return to me) from which you will see the offer I have made, & which, if nothing unforeseen occurs, I am willing to abide by. But if you should, upon a view of all Circumstances, & with the information you will receive, being on the spot, think it best for all parties to grant terms somewhat more indulgent in order to raise the whole sum of principal interest & Costs, I will before hand agree to abide by your Judgment.

I enclose you an official Copy of the decree recd today, which the Commissioners must have on the day of Sale. I think you will do well to write immediately to the Commissioners to remind them of the time & place of sale & to urge their attendance.

Should Mr Lee not be present to Join in the bond not to appeal (a thing very probable) take a bond from Alexander with Condition that neither he nor Mr Lee will in any event appeal or cause a permit is to be done — get the bond drawn1 by a Lawyer with care.

Should any thing further occur to me I will write again. But as many difficulties may occur which I cant foresee, I beg you to act upon your best Judgement according to Circumstances— Our first object is to effect a sale & the next to get as much as possible for the Land. I am most sincerely & affectly yrs

Bush. Washington
