Dear Sir
It may be proper to send the enclosed letter to the gentleman who may be applied to to bring the suit agt Saml Washington. I am very uneasy about the taxes due on our Kenhawa & ohio lands lest they may be forfeited & wish you could come up at once that we may consult on the proper steps to be taken. We have only till the first of March to save them. In haste yrs sincerely

ALS, ViMtvL: Esther Maria Lewis Chapin Collection. BW addressed the letter to Lawrence Lewis at Woodlawn in Fairfax County Virginia. It was postmarked 12 Feb. in Alexandria. Below the main text of the letter Lewis wrote the following: "It may be proper to take the affidavit of the Cashier of the Bank of Alexandria that two Check were drawn by Genl W. informing S.W. & unpaid agreeable to their rates, also for the Executors in oath to state these sums are charge in the Land renting to S.W. as loaned, in the words of the Genl"
