To Thomas Todd
Mt Vernon May 29. 1820
My dear Sir
An answer to Mr Banks' offer of a compromise, respecting the Kentucky land viz he to take one half & the heirs the other, has been delayed until you could make such enquiries as to satisfy yourself respecting his lette[r]. Something should be definitively decided upon without further delay, & I must beg the favor of you to let me hear from you on this subject as soon as possible. I am persuded that if we could get at the truth, he has no equitable title to the land, altho the legal & apparent title seems to me to be indisputable, his deed, recorded in time, being prior to that to General Washington. With complts & best wishes to Mrs Tod I am my dear sir sincerely & affectly yrs
