Spotswood Augustine Washington's paternal grandfather was a cousin of Bushrod Washington.

Description

Spotswood Augustine Washington, son of Bushrod Washington Jr. and grandson of William Augustine Washington, was born on 17 July 1811 at Mount Zephyr, part of the Mount Vernon estate in Fairfax County, Virginia. After attending school in Alexandria, he was a midshipman in the Navy, serving in the Mediterranean. In 1831 Washington was court-martialed on charges of drunkenness and scandalous conduct/conduct unbecoming an officer.
