Urbain Batrier

Description

Urbain Batrier (French for "urbane boatman") was the pseudonym of a Philadelphia resident who in 1822 wrote a menacing letter to Bushrod Washington, accusing the Supreme Court justice of hypocrisy regarding slavery. His identity remains unknown.
