Gustavus Hall Scott Sr. (1786–1837)
Bushrod Washington corresponded with Scott regarding the education of George William Washington, a son of Bushrod Washington Jr.
Gustavus Hall Scott Sr., a cousin of Julia Ann Blackburn Washington, was born on 2 April 1786 in Prince William County, Virginia. A graduate of present-day Princeton University, he settled in Fairfax County as a landowner and schoolmaster. In 1826 Scott bore dispatches from Secretary of State Henry Clay (his close friend) to the American minister at Bogotá.
