Description

Gustavus Hall Scott Sr., a cousin of Julia Ann Blackburn Washington, was born on 2 April 1786 in Prince William County, Virginia. A graduate of present-day Princeton University, he settled in Fairfax County as a landowner and schoolmaster. In 1826 Scott bore dispatches from Secretary of State Henry Clay (his close friend) to the American minister at Bogotá.
