Dear Sir
Your letter of the 25th Ulto was put into my hands after my return from Phila., <&> in the early part of this month, at which time & for Some weeks afterwards, I was engaged in business, which from the Sitting of the Court in Alexa. where it was to be transacted, admitted of no delay. This must be my apology for not having sooner returned you an answer.
I purpose sending George to your School as soon as his father can find time to accompany him, which will be I hope in a few days— I will deposit in the bank of Potomack to your credit $62.50 for his first half years board & tuition, for which you can check as soon after the boy gets up as you please.
Expecting to get Spotswood his warrant in a short time, I think it worse than useless to withdraw him from his present situation, as he might be thrown upon some new course of study by Mr Jencks, & be called away before he could have time to acquire any additional information. ALS, NjMoHP. Postmarked 7 Jan. 1826, the letter was addressed to Scott at "Pleasant valley post office Fairfax County Virga." Scott endorsed the letter.
