Jane Augusta Washington Thornton's father was the half-brother of Bushrod Washington's father.

Description

Jane Augusta Washington was born in Westmoreland County, Virginia. Her father was Augustine Washington, the half-brother of John Augustine Washington and George Washington. In 1784 she married Colonel John Thornton (d. 1822), a distant cousin and veteran of the Revolutionary War. They had five or six children who reached maturity. Jane Augusta Washington Thornton died on 4 October 1833 at Thornton Hill, in what is now Rappahannock County.
