William Popham (1752–1847)
Popham was treasurer of the United States Military Philosophical Society, of which Bushrod Washington was a member.
William Popham was born on 19 September 1752 in County Cork, Ireland. He immigrated to America and attended present-day Princeton University before serving in the Revolutionary War as an aide to George Washington. In 1783 he wed Mary Morris (1763–1836), the daughter of New York State Supreme Court Chief Justice Richard Morris.
