From George Ball
Nov. 20. 1805
Dr Sr
In consequence of your note of the 8 June last, I have seen Mr Burwell Bassett, and delivered him the contract upon the authority of which I held the land the property of the late General Geo. Washington, situated in the county of Gloucester— I understand from Mr Bassett that he is to have the land upon the same terms that I was, from which it seems that it is not intended that the estate is to join or has by the change of purchasers— when the contract was executed I advanced £197: I submit it to you <illegible> if I ought not to have this money repaid me— the increased value of the land is more than the increased int. for it will now command £5 pr acre. nor has the use of the land (having tended but little1) been any ways equal to the improvements I have put upon it.
If you should accede in favour of my claim, (for I will abide by your opinion) I can settle the thing with Mr Bassett. by relieving a small part of the land of not much use to the rest. write me if you please.
