From Nicholas Biddle

Dear Sir,

On my return home after I had the pleasure of seeing you, I made a diligent search among my papers for the letters of Genl Washington, about which we conversed. but not being able to discover them I then recollected that when Mr Walsh first established his newspaper I gave them to him as literary curiosities, and that after printing them the manuscripts were not returned to me,1 but, as I learnt on enquiry, were probably destroyed with the other contributions to the paper. As however they were accurately printed, I have coped them from the "National Gazette" and now forward them, presuming that it would be agreeable to you, to possess them in that form with the information that I had myself taken them from the originals in the office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth at Harrisburgh where they can always be examined.

I take the liberty of sending to you an address which I was made to deliver lately, and in which I have introduced the name of your distinguished kinsman for the purpose of encouraging the farmers of this country to understand and perform their duties. Very respectfully yrs

Nicholas Biddle
