George Hay (17651830)

Description

George Hay, lawyer and judge, was born on 15 December 1765 in Williamsburg, Virginia. He practiced law in Petersburg and Richmond before his appointment as U.S. attorney for the District of Virginia (18031816). Hay then served in the Virginia state legislature and returned to private practice before President John Quincy Adams nominated him for a judgeship on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Confirmed in 1826, he held that post until his death.
