Nathaniel Pendleton (1756–1821)

Description

Nathaniel Pendleton, lawyer and jurist, was born on 27 October 1756 in Virginia. He rose to the rank of lieutenant in the Revolutionary War, serving as an aide-de-camp to Nathanael Greene. In 1785 he married Susan Bard (d. 1816), the daughter of a friend of Benjamin Franklin. Pendleton practiced law in Savannah, Georgia, and served as a state legislator, state attorney general, and delegate to the Constitutional Convention of 1787 (although he was not present at the signing).
