Thomas Peter (17691834)

Description

Thomas Peter was born in Georgetown (then part of Maryland) in 1769. The eldest son of a successful merchant and land speculator, Peter was an accomplished businessman in his own right. He also served as a Washington, D.C., city councilman, justice of the peace for the County of Washington, member of the Levy Court for Georgetown, director of the Bank of Columbia, and vestryman of Georgetown’s St. John’s Protestant Episcopal Church.
