John Drayton (1766–1822)
Description
John Drayton, son of wealthy planter and patriot William Henry Drayton, was born on 22 June 1766 at Drayton Hall, the family plantation near Charleston, South Carolina. After education in England, he returned to his home state and practiced law. In 1794 he married Hester Rose Tidyman (1773–1816). They had six children who lived to maturity.
