Description

Daniel Webster, politician and statesman, was born on 18 January 1782 in Salisbury, New Hampshire. After graduating from Dartmouth College, he studied law, gained admittance to the bar, and opened a legal practice. He was elected to the House of Representatives in 1812, the start of a political career that included service as a congressman (181317, 182327), U.S. senator (182741, 184550), and secretary of state (184143, 185052).
