From Bushrod Washington Jr.

My dear uncle,

Your favor by Mr Allison has been received and its contents shall be strictly obser[ve]d. I can not say precisely at what time Jane & myself will be up but I am extremely anxious to get from this part of the country, and Doct. Mason thinks my health requires an immediate change of situation, & advises me to drink the waters of Painter's sulphur Spring near Winchester. I am becoming more debilitated daily. I fear I shall not be able to take my family to my brother's. The long rain we had since you left home, before I cut my oats, destroyed all the crop except about 100 bushels that I had saved. Our corn is very fine, and your business is all going on well at Mt Vernon & Union Farm. Your hay crop is secured & some of the milet is cut. It ripens in spots. I will write to you again in a few days and more fully on your affairs. I have had no sickness on my farm, and all have been well at both your places. — I have engaged Rodgers as an overseer for one sixth of the grain & he promises to see to my affairs in my absence. All here unite in love to you and my aunt & cousin Mary & our other friends. Your very affet neph.

B. Washington Jr.
