My dear Sir
Mr Davis, the district Attorney of Kentucky, and a brother in law of Chief Justice Marshall, wishes to remove to this City with professional views, provided the information he has requested of me should not render such a plan unadvisable.
I am persuaded that I can apply to no person who will give me a more candid or a more correct Opinion upon this subject than yourself, and I have many reasons for the confidence I feel in asking it. Will you then have the goodness to say whether you think a gentleman of good legal talents can in any reasonable time expect to obtain a competent Share of business in this City? Will previous residence for any & what time, or any other qualification obstruct his entering at once into the practice? Can he remove his domestic servants with him without hazarding their freedom?
Let me ask the favor of you to direct your answer to me in Albany. With sentiments of very great regard I am my Dear Sir Sincerely & affectly yrs
