To Lawrence Lewis
2d feb. 1820
Dear Sir
I enclose you the Copy of my letter to Mr Lee & his answer recieved yesterday, for your information in settling with Alexander. You will see what were my propositions, which, as I understand Mr Lee, are accepted. As you are not much acquainted with business of this kind, I think it will be best for you to meet Mr Alexander in Alexandria, if your health will permit, and get Mr Hewett, the lawyer I employed to sue Alexander, to draw the necessary writings. these will merely be an assignment of the Deed of trust & bond for the $7000, and also of the debt due by Stuart— He can also give Mr Hewell a power to confess Judgment for the balance due from Colo. Lees estate.
Take care, I pray you, of the Copy of my letter & restore it to me when I return home, as it is a document very necessary for us to keep.
I have written to Mr Lee to inform Alexander that it will be best for him to approve you before hand of the day he will meet you in Alexa[ndria]. I am my Dear Sir very sincerely & affectly yrs
