To Lawrence Lewis
Mt Vernon July 2. 1812
Dear Sir
I cant make off a correct statement of Colo. Washingtons account without knowing the amount of my order on your brother Robert in favor of the Colo., as I sent him a blank one to fill up with such a sum as would make $8000 in all. Will you write to your brother & enquire the precise sum? I should suppose from the Copy of one of my letters it was $157.14 which with Mr Parks debt $4537.86 & Rusts bonds $3305 principal make exactly $8000. I wish you would some leisure day, after you receive an answer from your brother ride down with your book & let us examine the accounts of the different legatees & make our books conformable with each other as there are at present omissions in mine which I can supply only by obtaining information from yours.
Mr Hayes has just returned from Washington & brought me a letter from Mr Key stating that the sale was postponed till monday next, when I hope it will be in your power to attend. I am Dear Sir very sincerely yrs
