To Lawrence Lewis

Dear Sir,

I will thank you to send me the answer I drew to the bill in chancery brought agt Ashton & us, as I wish to alter it so as to state the accounts of the legatees, more specially in order to draw from the Court the principle on which all the accounts shall be settled.

I return you the settlement made with Spotswood & his bond for the balance made by that settlement, together with a statement which I have made showing, (unless I have blundered in figuring) that the balance due from him was $1208.75 instead of $705.80. If after examining my statement you find it correct, I think you ought to lose no time in getting the settlement rectified & the Just balance secured. I wish you may not find this a troublesome business to manage with the person whom it concerns.

I send you your brothers letter respecting the Surry land, and as I shall in a few days be obliged to leave home for Washington, & as you have already had some correspondence with Colo. Fountain respecting that land, I will thank you to pursue such steps as you may think best in conjunction with your brother for selling his & our parts of it.

Colo. Fountain will perhaps undertake the agency or advise us to whom to apply. He can inform you of the offers made him before coming to any written engagement.

I find it noted on the papers I have that Colo. Thos Lee gave a bond for his purchase of personal property at the sale. Please look if you have it & at your leisure let me know. I am Dr Sir very sincerely yrs

Bush. Washington

Colo Washington will take the bonds.
