To Hannah Bushrod Washington

Dear & Hond Madam

I have to return you my sincere thanks for the articles sent up by Captn Coard all of which I have recd safe. They are such things as are of great value to Town House Keepers it being difficult for them to get such. The Jugs I return.

I am indeed extremely uneasy about my dearest Brother. He has been unwell now for a long time. I hope that he is not worse than my friends tell me. I have sometimes been afraid of this, & that it is endeavoured to be Kept secret from me, they knowing how much I have been lately engaged in business— do my dearest mother let me know by the first opportunity that I may go down to see him. I have been looking for him every day since I returned from Richmond; Anxious however as I am to see him, let me beg that he will not undertake a trip to Berkley at this Season of the Year unless he feels himself quite strong. I am very desirous to hear from him & will thank you to drop me a line by Post to inform me how he is— His health is so entwined with the happiness of my life that I have felt a constant uneasiness since I recd your Letter— You say nothing about yourself; I therefore hope you are well, and that you may long very long continue to be so is the fervent hope of an affect. Son. Nancy and myself are very happy at the prospect of having your Company this winter. we hope to render your time agreable to you. I hope that my sister Lee will accompany you.I send Down the case which I promised you; one of the Bottles are broke & I am sorry that I cant replace it in Town. Present our loves to my Brother & Sister & all the family of young ones. She also joins in love & duty to yourself. I am as ever my Dearest mother your dutyful & affect. Son
