Description

Henry Tazewell was born on 27 November 1753 in Brunswick County, Virginia. He attended The College of William and Mary, practiced law, and represented Brunswick County and Williamsburg in the Virginia House of Delegates. Appointed to the General Court in 1785, Tazewell served as its chief justice from 1789 to 1793, followed by a brief stint on the Virginia Court of Appeals. In 1794 the Virginia General Assembly appointed him U.S. senator, a post he held until his death in Philadelphia on 24 January 1799.
