From Philip Doddridge
Wellsburg. 3d Decr 1823.
Dr Sir.
At the time I received yours by Mr Archd McClean, and untill within a few days, <mutilated> was so afflicted with an injured knee, leg<mutilated> uncle, that I realy do not recollect wheth<er> I wrote you or not.
It is most probable that the suit you speak of is founded on points to which my attention has been turned and may have argued while engaged for Tomlinson & Cressop, and which, altho not now then Council, would render an engagement for Mr. McClean improper in me— Of this I neither could nor can be certain without seeing the bill— I was confined to bed when the last Chancery Court sat— I have not yet seen the bill, and did not know untill yesterday who were the Corrpts Council— They are Rindall and Duncan— I would recommend to you Alexander Caldwell esqe of Wheeling as Council— When I see the proceeding—if Consistent, I will aid. Very respectfuly
P. Doddridge
