To Caleb P. Wayne
Mount Vernon—Decr 31—1803
Dear Sir
I recd a day or two ago yr favr of the 23d. Being much hurried at present, & expecting to write you a long letter as soon as I hear from Mr Marshall, I mean at present only to assure you that we have every disposition to gratify all your reasonable wishes & will do so. The moment I recieve Mr Marshalls' letter, I shall send you on every thing necessary to enable you to commence your Operations.
Morgan & myself have closed our bargain, or it will be finally done in a few days‑ As to the maps, plans &c. he only requires to have the option of recieving the originals from you the moment your engraver has done with them or the first impressions that shall be taken from your plates. This seems to be so fair & unexceptionable that I do not see how I can refuse it.
It is impossible I think that you can have any objections to it. If you have, state it by the post next after you receive this, for if Morgan & we are to continue negotiating about the Maps by letter, I do not know when either of you can begin. Yrs in great haste
