Description

Joseph Hopkinson, son of a signer of the Declaration of Independence, was born on 12 November 1770 in Philadelphia. A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, he read law with James Wilson, gained admittance to the bar, and practiced in Philadelphia and Easton, Pennsylvania. In 1814 Hopkinson won election as a Federalist to the U.S. House of Representatives; he would serve two terms (181519).
