To Robert Beverley

Sir

Having sold Laurel Grove & recieved in Cash one half of the purchase money, I have it in my power, & am ready at any moment to pay a moiety of the Judgment which you recovered against my nephew. I presume you would wish it paid at once to Mr Barnett, & if so I will make the remittance to him as soon as I receive your directions to do so.

The residue of the purchase money I may probably be enabled to raise by discounting the bonds at some of the banks; but this it would be improper in me to attempt so long as the land remains liable to Barnetts lien. On this account, I beg leave to enquire, whether any & what part of this debt has been discharged, and when you support<mutilated> in your power fully to exonerate the land? Should the residue of my nephews debt to you be required for this purpose, I can raise it at any moment when I can safely offer for discount the bonds of the purchaser. As nothing but this difficulty can I believe prevent me from a speedy conclusion of my trust duties, I hope you will excuse my mentioning the subject of B's mortgage again to you. I am Sir very respectfully yr mo. ob. Servt

Bush. Washington

P.S. Can you furnish me with a copy or precise Statement of the Jugment?
