To Robert Beverley

Sir

My nephew Bush. Washington having conveyed all his estate to me for the payment of his Debts, I shall be compelled in the first place, and as soon as possible to sell his land in Westmoreland, upon which I understand there was a mortgage for a considerable sum of money given by his father to Mr Barnet.

Unless this incumbrance has been or shall be soon discharged, it will, I apprehend, be impossible for me to make a sale so as to raise mony for the purposes of the trust. I have therefore thought it prudent, before I advertize the land, to inquire of you whether this mortgage has been satisfied, & if not, whether I may calculate upon its being soon done? I am Sir respectfully yr mo. ob. Servt

Bush. Washington
