Jerry

Role

Jerry was an enslaved waiting man of Bushrod Washington's father.

Description

Jerry was an enslaved man who was part of the property of John Augustine Washington. In his will, John Augustine described Jerry as his "waiting man," and he appears to have been responsible for delivering much of the correspondence of the family at Bushfield. His wife (also enslaved by John Augustine Washington) was named Suck. Washington bequeathed both both Jerry and Suck to Hannah Bushrod Washington.
