John Nicolson Gibbons (born c. 1795)
Gibbons acted as Bushrod Washington's financial agent in Norfolk, Virginia.
John Nicolson Gibbons (middle name also spelled as Nicholas or Nicholson) was born circa 1795. In 1818 he married Martha Adeline Gray (1798–1871) in Baltimore, Maryland. They had at least one daughter. A resident of Norfolk, Virginia, “Colonel” Gibbons worked as an inspector for that city’s Board of Health. He was also active in horse racing, serving as secretary of the Norfolk Jockey Club and local agent of a “turf” weekly newspaper.
