Charles Caldwell (1772–1853)


In 1814 Caldwell wrote Bushrod Washington for help in gathering information for biographies of John Randolph and Captain Lewis Warrington.


Charles Caldwell was born on 14 May 1772 in Caswell County, North Carolina. After teaching school for several years, he studied medicine under Benjamin Rush and others at the University of Pennsylvania and opened a practice in Philadelphia. Caldwell also taught natural history at Penn and edited the Port Folio.
