William Cabell Rives (17931868)

Description

William Cabell Rives was born on 4 May 1793 at Union Hill, his grandfather’s James River plantation in what is now Nelson County, Virginia. Following his expulsion from the College of William and Mary over an affair of honor, he studied law with Thomas Jefferson, and was admitted to the bar in 1814.
