Abraham Martin (17931880)

Description

Abraham Martin was born in Philadelphia on 3 August 1793. He was a founding member of the American Sunday School Union, an organization devoted to establishing Sunday schools and publishing books for local youth. Martin served the ASSU (today known as InFaith) in several capacities for approximately sixty years. A Presbyterian layman, he was affectionately known as Father Abraham. Martin married twice: to Susan Boyle (d. 1868) in 1817, and to Harriet Garnett in 1869. He died in Philadelphia on 8 November 1880.
