Gerard Alexander Jr. was born on 12 December 1773 in Prince William County, Virginia. A planter and slaveowner, he also served as a colonel in the Virginia militia and represented Prince William County in the House of Burgesses (180510). At some point he relocated to New London, a small town in Campbell County.
