Anne Fairfax Washington (c. 1728–1761)

Role

Anne Fairfax Washington was an aunt of Bushrod Washington.

Description

Anne Fairfax, daughter of William Fairfax, was born circa September 1728, probably in the Bahamas. Following a relocation to Salem, Massachusetts (where Anne was baptized just days after her mother's death), William and family settled in Virginia. His position as a land agent afforded Anne a dowry of 4,000 acres, and in 1743 the fourteen-year-old wed Lawrence Washington, elder half-brother of George Washington.
