Richard Jeffries (1790–1858)

Description

Richard Jeffries was born on 16 April 1790 in Dilltown, Pennsylvania.  Following brief service in a Virginia militia unit during the War of 1812, he was clerk of the U.S. District Court for the (Eastern) District of Virginia. In 1842 Jeffries married Martha Blacknall Lucas Gwynn Turpin (1806–1891), widow of Thomas Jefferson Turpin. Jeffries died on 20 July 1858 in Georgetown, Washington, D.C.
