Alexander James Dallas (1759–1817)

Description

Alexander James Dallas was born in Jamaica on 21 June 1759. He attended Kensington School and Edinburgh University before marrying Arabella Maria Smith (1761–1837, m. 1780). In 1783 the couple moved to the United States, eventually settling in Philadelphia, where Dallas practiced law. He was a counselor of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, secretary to the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, reporter for the U.S. Supreme Court, and U.S.
