David Caldwell (1770–1835)
David Caldwell was born in Philadelphia on 21 February 1770. His father, Samuel Caldwell (d. 1798), was clerk of both the U.S. Court for the District of Pennsylvania and the U.S. Circuit Court for the Middle Circuit. Shortly after Samuel's death, David was appointed as clerk to the District Court. He was formally named clerk of the Circuit Court in 1801, and thereafter held both positions until his retirement thirty years later. Caldwell and his wife Elizabeth Hewson (1774–1851, m. 1802) had two children. He died on 11 November 1835.
