Rufus King (17551827)

Description

Rufus King was born on 24 March 1755 in Scarborough, present-day Maine. A Harvard graduate, he served in the Revolutionary War, was admitted to the bar, and practiced law in Newburyport, Massachusetts. In 1786 King married Mary Alsop (17691819), the only daughter of John Alsop, a wealthy merchant and New York delegate to the Continental Congress.
