Philip Yorke, first earl of Hardwicke (1690-1764)
Description
Philip Yorke, the first earl of Hardwicke, was born on 1 December 1690 in Dover, Kent. A lawyer by trade, he served as lord chancellor (1737-56) and member of the House of Lords. Yorke had seven children with Margaret Lygon (c.1695-1761, m.1719), niece of a former lord chancellor. He died in London on 6 March 1764.
